I fully agree with David, this movie is far more entertaining than Prometheus. Sure it has some pacing problems and weak characters, but it’s nowhere near the worst in the Alien franchise.

1977 Year of HS Graduation in NW Indiana. Except for visiting now defunct 'Old Chicago' indoor park on rainy day in NOV 1976, I went to 'Kings Dominion' Richmond VA ( Sister park to Kings Island in Ohio) in early 1990s. First visit to California in 1992 I visited Magic Mountain which I consider the best park in nation for most exiting rides and minimum wait times.. Movie Roller-coaster 1977 is one I can watch over and over, along with other favorites 'Ice Station Zebra', 1970 'Best Years of our Lives ' 1946, and 'North By Northwest 1959, Airport 75 , Quiz Show 1994

Hello. I enjoyed your conversation. But there are a few things that need to be fixed. English is not my native language, so please understand even if it is awkward. First of all, the woman who died dancing with the bad grandfather is not his daughter, but his daughter-in-law. Originally, there was a scene where the grandfather went to his daughter and tried to kill her too, but it was edited out. According to the director, the first half of the movie was much more brutal, but he was worried that the audience would get tired and not focus on the second half, so most of it was edited out. Also, the grandfather was not a soldier, and his burial was not a punishment. Through the grandson’s speech where he gave a militaristic salute, we can see that his grandfather was a politician who incited Koreans to die for Japan during World War II. At that time, unlike those who collaborated with the Nazis in France, these people were not punished even after Japan’s defeat, thanks to the Cold War. They were able to maintain their wealth and status by laundering their identities, but they were always at risk of being exposed and criticized for their past. So some of them and their descendants immigrated to other countries to avoid it, and the family of the bad grandfather was also one of those cases. The grandson knew the grandfather's true identity. He asked the main characters to quietly handle the matter and cremate the grandfather's coffin without opening it. This was because the medals the grandfather received from Japan were inside the coffin. From the conversation between the grandfather's daughter and the grandson, we can see that they were worried that the grandfather's true identity would be revealed. The people who appeared as grave robbers in the movie actually symbolize Korean independence fighters who fought against traitors like the grandfather and tried to punish them. From the line, 'Some of them were caught and some went to the North,' we can see that their endings were not good because of the Cold War. Anyway, no matter how loyal the grandfather was to Japan at the expense of his own people, to Japan, people like the grandfather were still not fellow Japanese, but just Koreans who could be used and discarded for Japan. The samurai did not die on Korean soil. According to the samurai, he killed many people in the wars of medieval Japan (and most likely in the wars that invaded medieval Korea too). He lost and died in the war on Japanese soil, but was revered as a god by the Japanese and enshrined in a temple. Hundreds of years later, when Japan invaded Korea again, the Japanese shaman thought that he needed the samurai's head to create a curse that would rule Korea. So the Japanese shaman told the samurai who was enshrined in the temple that he would enshrine him in a good temple in Korea, but this was a trick. Instead, the Japanese shaman attached the samurai's head to another body and buried it vertically under the bad old man's coffin. That's why the samurai cursed the Japanese shaman. The liver and sweet fish seem to be based on the Asian fox monster legend and the medieval samurai who loved sweet fish, respectively. The way the protagonist defeated the samurai also comes from the theory of yin and yang and the five elements, but it's so complicated that I think it's better not to think too much about it and just skip over it. That's all I can say, and I'm sorry it's so long. There is much more accurate and detailed information in Korean, but it is not translated into English, which is unfortunate. There seems to be videos that explain in English, but I am not sure if they get the point across. Although it seems like you had some difficulty understanding the movie, I am glad that you were able to enjoy it.

The wife was dumb, why didn’t they call the police in the beginning. I guess if smarter decisions were made there would be no movie. Was close to being so bad it’s good, but too long and too boring. The actors did the best they could with what they had to work with.

BTW I don’t think we’ll get a Helen Hunt cameo in Twisters. There’s a rumour doing the rounds that her and Spielberg fell out over the direction of the movie (which must mean Spielberg is a producer on this one too). It would be a shame if she didn’t at least get a cameo.

Good review, think you guys make some good points. I am with you on the casting of Paxton and Hunt making the movie better than it would have been otherwise (if anything Hunt is underrated). I just enjoy this as a good, switch your brain off, popcorn movie with charm. For the time the effects were good and they didn’t even bother me now because they just add a bit of retro charm to a film like this.

Ha we understand the expression. The problem here is that there's little context of what they're discussing initially so it just sounds like a bunch of dialogue to make them sound cool but instead just sounds hokey. Especially how they commit to it for several lines with dead serious expressions.

Hold up a minute. The boat is named The Albatross? That’s a terrible omen, which came from Coleridge’s “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” From Google, “The poem is about a Mariner who kills an albatross and is unable to escape the repercussions of his sin. The poem is considered a founding fable of the modern age, and the albatross is seen as an emblem of human despair and abuse of the natural world.” Essentially, the dolphin in the movie is the albatross in the poem. No sailor would name their boat that.
